Howdy:
The Austin Astronomical Society is proud to host the Central Texas Star Party for a 13th year. The star party is at the Eagle Eye Observatory in Canyon of the Eagles Park, Lake Buchanan, Texas. August 29th and 30th are the dates.
This party is free to anyone who wishes to attend. You have to pay entrance and other park fees.
Friday Night is known as "astronomers only". This means only astronomers and their friends/family are allowed at the observatory after dark.
There will be an observing challenge to complete during the weekend.
Saturday has a full line of activities scheduled:
- "History of Mars Observation" by Eleta Malewitz, AAS and Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society member
- Group Photo, everyone who attend is welcome to join in, copies are for sale
- Harlan Smith Telescope, 30th Birthday Celebration, a 12.5-inch Newtonian telescope that was built by the club (see our Nov. 1999 Newsletter at http://aas.nincehelser.com/ST199911.pdf).
- Swap Meet: bring your stuff to trade, sell, or swap. Vendors are welcome. Please contact Eric Ebner, AAS President, at ebner101@texas.net for details.
- Public Program (Premier Night): other guests in the park get to take journeys to the stars via telescopes for the first two hours after astronomical twilight. The guests are ferried in on a "hayride."
Come see for yourself why Texas Monthly ranked our humble observatory #18 in the Top 25 places to visit in the Texas Hill Country (April 2003 you'll need to register to see article).
Registration, lodging, and other information is at:http://www.austinastro.org/ctsp.html. If you are staying at the Canyon of the Eagles Lodge, please make sure you ask for the "Astronomer's Discount" to get$20 off each night. We hope to have the registration portion of the Central Texas Star Party website up by July 15th so please check back.
You are more than welcome to come in earlier or stay later. Many of the Austin members will probably be there for extra days as well. The official star party dates are August 29th-30th.
