I've received this question a lot, so here's an explanation:

To post pictures in the Forums:

First, you need a picture hosting account somewhere, such as http://www.photobucket.com/ or http://www.imageshack.us/

When you upload a picture there, you will get a URL (i.e. web link,) like this: http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7314/sn94dhizmedbr4.jpg ( be sure to use the "Direct" URL.)

You would then simply copy and paste this link into your message, then add [*img] at the front of the link, and [*/img] at the end, like this but without the "*":

[*img]http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7314/sn94dhizmedbr4.jpg[*/img]

To make it easier, you can use the buttons at the top of the editing window to add the [*img] tag, then paste the URL, and then hit the button again to inlude the [*/img] closing tag.

The image will then be displayed in your forum post like this:

Hey Leonard -

Actually you CAN post pictures from the gallery in a forum post. Bu it works a little differently than when you use ImageShack or Photobucket.

You can use something known as an Autotag to accomplish this.
Let's say I want to post a picture from my member's album: this one for instance.

If you notice the URL I used in the link above:

 http://www.aoas.org/mediagallery/media.php?f=0&sort=0&s=2010011015014172

See the number after the last equals sign at the end? Use a media Autotag and that number to reference the image in your post.

You would use the following code:

 [media:2010011015014172]

If you want to adjust the size of the image, you can define either the width, height, or both:

 [media:2010011015014172 width:640 height:480]

Unfortunately, just resizing the image on the fly doesn't produce as sharp an image as if you resized it yourself, optimized it, and then posted it to imageShack or PhotoBucket. But it does work.

I used the last example autotag from those shown above for the image below:
