I just pulled the trigger on a William Optics Megrez 110 ED refractor.
This one is an ED doublet, but will be great for starting out AP. I's only 1-1/2 years old, but in pristine condition.
So - what mount would y'all suggest? I'm thinking CGEM or Atlas EQ-G, as well as an AT Voyager for those quick grab-n-go look-see's.
Wow............congrates!!!
I am no expert, but I would go with the CGEM.............you could go with a dual mount and use a WO 66 as a Guide Scope..........
I forgot to mention, I just got a slightly used Celestron C11 Carbon Fiber OTA.................Right now it isn't useable though.....It has a Losmandy Dovetail, my mount uses a Vixen...........Also, the last owner had a feathertouch focuser on it and sold it and the 3.25" adaptor to someone else. The original 3.25" adaptor (Connects between the OTA and the visual back) was nowhere to be found. I will have to buy a Vixen/CG5 Dovetail and Radius Blocks and a new moonlite focuser, with a built in 3.25 adaptor, for it.......
Yeah - the possibilities are endless.....
Nice!!!
I would also go for the CGEM. They are supposed to be quite equivalent (even price wise) but the CGEM has servo motors vs. just stepper in the Atlas.
If I had three grand, I'd go with the G-11 with goto.............One day maybe......................
Yeah - but why stop there? If I had 25 grand, I'd get an AP 160 on an AP1200 GTO mount. But when's that gonna happen?
Hey why don't you just go ahead and buy me one of those too!
One can always dream, right?
