Hello all.
This one improving with the approach. This image from about 0330 ut the 5th-1030 local on the 4th
Thanks, Mike H.
Nice image, Mike -
Has it changed at all since the evening of 4th? Thanks!
I imaged it again on the 6th while the skys were still really clear. Hard to say how much but there was improvement then. The coma is expanding as the comet approaches Earth. Because this is not a big comet it is beleived that the entire comet my be blowing off gas and dust instead of just a few jets. O course the weather has gone to _____ now so imaging is not happening. Over the next month this comet could grow another 2-3 magnitudes from the app.9.5 mag it is now. Good thing about this comet now is the location for our skys and you know me, any comet is a good one.
Mike
Is this Comet Hartley already? I've been eager to catch a glimpse but didn't think it would be visible yet.
Comet from 2010/09/30. Switched to the TV60is from the TV127is. Makes a difference from 660mm at F5.2 to 360mm at F6 I beleive the red dust tail is starting to show and over the next few weeks will expand. I sure like this imaging weather!
Thanks, Mike H.
very nice Mike. Ive been taking nightly pictures the last 4 nights and havent seen a lot of change yet.
Hello. Comet from 2010/10/02. Thanks, Mike H.
Hello. Comet from 2010/10/04
Thanks, Mike H.
Hello. Well I suspect that you are getting a little tired of hearing about this comet. As for me the extended good weather has me making up for lost time. Tonight the 7/8th will 4be a good time to find it. It makes a pass by NGC884/869 double cluster. Last night 7th/8th I made a 3x mosaic giving a good idea of how large this comet is.
Thanks, Mike
I am far from losing interest so please keep the photos coming. Its pretty cool to be able to go outside and look for it then come see your photos. Keep up the good work.
Mike - I hope you got up this morning to image when it was near its closest approach to the Double Cluster! Here's what I got.
Close approach from 0430 local time this morning. I need to get back to work so I can get some sleep.
Thanks, Mike H.
It has been a pleasure to follow this thread. Please keep it coming! Amazing images Mike! Thank you so much for sharing!

Hello. Image from 2010/10/15. RGB of 1x120 sec each. 5" efractor at 660mm and F5.2.
Thanks, Mike H.
Hello. This image is like the last RGB image I posted. Difference here is a Luminance channel. In my opinion the processing becomes much harder but what the heck, here it is. 1x120 seconds each channel. This crazy comet is spread all over the place.
Thanks, Mike H.
I love that video! Cudos to you sir!
