I can't believe no one has posted about this. 17P/Holmes, a normally mag 18 comet has brightened to mag 2.8 in under 24 hours. I did not think I would be able to spot it but I wandered out in the fron yard early this morning and there it was, visible to the naked eye! It looks like an extra yellow star in Perseus. Reports are coming in from all around the globe. No tail yet but it is still growing and is expected to stay in Perseus for over a month. "The heavens declare the glory of the Lord.." |

I first noticed it as a dimmer star 2 mornings back. Then I get Dr Clay's alert a few hours later and Then I knew why the area in Perseus looked "a little different" to me. Bob Moody |

I used Heavens-Above tonight. I found it in binoculars, but I'm going to wait for the moon to dim down a little bit before I bring out my scope. The sky is too washed out. |

Hello. There is a new image of the comet. This was taken at 2:30 local or 07:30 UT 2007/10/28. I find a faint golden ring around the brighter white center or about 1/2 way out. The lum channel I added today shows the central star like area. Really cool comet! Image in the photo section. |

Hello. This time of year we must take a sky anytime it is possible. I waited for a few holes in the clouds to capture this amazing, once in a many lifetimes event again. At the link is an image from 2007/12/14 which took 3 frames with my setup to capture most of the comet |
