Comet Yi-SWAN should be within reach of small telescopes throughout most of April and May, 2009. It may be tough to spot until late April , however due to the brightness of the moon. The comet is currently passing through Cassiopeiae, and will then pass through Perseus. Y-SWAN should pass about 1.2° south of the Double Cluster in Perseus on April 23-24, just before the Diamond Bar G Ranch Star Party.
The comet's appearance is described as a faint diffuse glow at about 8th magnitude. The comet was discovered and imaged by Korean amateur Dae-am Yi, while Rob Matson independently found the comet on April 4th in SWAN images on the SOHO website. Hence the name, Yi-SWAN.
