AOAS has nothing planned for the Venus/Sun Transit, however, if it isn't cloudy, on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 5th, I am planning to set-up at Ben Garren Park, in the South/East corner, for a little "Astronomy in the Park" (this should give a good sunset view. The Nature Center observing site is not as good for this because the horizon is blocked by trees), ................I am going to try to get some photos of this very rare event.

If anyone wishes to join me, the transit will begin at around 5:00 pm and will be visable until sunset at around 8:20 pm.

I will try to be there by 4:30 pm.

I am going to be at the observatory cloudy or not. Sometimes the clouds help if not to thick. Mmebers only are welcome to set up at the pasture if you wish. I cannot invite the public and there will be no bathroom aval. Power is there and the west view is good. the libality issue is something to keep in mind as I don't or will not be responsible for injuries. Don't know what anyone could do on flat land with no trees but it gets dark and members know how to cope as most of the public might not. Contact me off line if you wish to set up at the observatory.

First shot

Sweet shot. I tried watching through welding goggles but the sun was still too bright and glaring to see Venus cleanly. I could just make it out once in awhile but not consistently. Watched some great on-line views of it though.

From Ben Garren Park, I took pictures about 10 minutes apart, creating a series that begens at "1st Contact" till the sun entered a cloud bank just prior to sunset...........I have posted some of these in my photo gallery.
