In support of Dave's recent "How Dark Is It, Really?" article, The following link will take you to a webpage that has a file download that will give you a Light Pollution Color Map Overlay for "Google Earth". (This appears to be the same map Dave used in his article). Download and install it here:

http://www.evergladesphotosociety.org/articles/juddnight.html

Scroll down the page, on the right collumn and click on the "Severity of Light Pollution (requires Google Earth)" Link. This will load the overlay into Google earth.........

If you want to keep the overlay, in Google Earth, you must right click on "Temperary Places", in the left column and click "Save to My Places". The light pollution map will be visible when it's check box is checked.

You MUST first download and install Google Earth to use this overlay. If you dont't already have it, download it here:

http://earth.google.com/

Right Up there with "OpenOffice Suite", Google earth is about the best FREE SOFTWARE I have ever found, and use it all the time.
