On this date in 1775 at Tun Tavern in Philidelphia the United States Marine Corps was brought into existence by an act of the Continental Congress.
Happy Birthday Marines!

The term "Semper Fi" is short for Semper Fidelis, which is Latin for "Always Faithful". It is the Marine Corps motto and is found on the Marine Corps' emblem (Eagle, Globe & Anchor). The spread eagle, a symbol of our nation, holds in his beak a streamer upon which is inscribed this motto: "Semper Fidelis"
