Astronomy Camping Procedures for Mount Magazine Grand Opening Weekend May 19-21, 2006

1) Before setting up camp, check in first at the main Visitor Center for instructions, directions, and to get registered. Be sure to identify yourself as one of the astronomy campers or a guest of one of the astronomy clubs, so the park staff will know where to assign your campsite.

2) After registration at the Visitor Center, you may proceed to the Horse Camp campground area and setup your campsite.

3) Porta-potties will be provided by park staff, but there is no running water or electricity at this campsite so plan accordingly. Holding tank dumping facilities are available elsewhere on park property at the Cameron Bluff campground area.

4) Restaurant facilities will be available just up the highway a very short distance on park property at the new Arkansas Lodge.

5) The camping fees for astronomy campers are $9.00 per campsite, per night. Standard tent and RV camping is allowed for Friday night, May 19th through Saturday night, May 20th, with checkout by Sunday afternoon, May 21st. Check with Mount Magazine park staff for specific instructions on the latest checkout time allowed and any other information you may need.

You may email the park staff here for questions about the Horse Camp astronomy camping, or any other questions you may need answered:
