Once again, our open policy towards the public being able to post text and images on this website has been abused. As of January 11, 2007, only members of AOAS, and registered website users, may post ANY comments in our website, EXCEPT in the Photo Gallery "comments" section. We've tried to be forgiving about allowing everyone to post comments on pretty much everything associated with this site since we first opened it on June 17, 2003, but due to abuse of the comments section for the second time, we can no longer be as open as we'd like to be.
Don't worry, though! Later this spring, the Arkansas Oklahoma Astronomical Society website will undergo a face-lift, and a CONSIDERABLE revamping of the abilities of our visitors to post comments without the recent ability for abuse being preserved.
We apologize for this temporary inconvenience.

I want to correct one misunderstanding. Comments are still enabled for Registered Users only in our Stories, Polls, Events, Downloads, and Forum sections. What has been disabled are the comments in the Photo Gallery section ONLY. This is due to the fact that we don't have an adequate security mechanism for the Photo Gallery section implemented yet.
Originally, we were willing to allow comments by anyone in any section of our website. It's unfortunate, but unscrupulous SPAMMERS seem to think that every website on the Internet should be willing to act as a repository for their porn ads, drug scams, physical enhancement scams, and phishing attacks. We've tried to be patient, but we have to draw the line somewhere.
As Bob has indicated, we hope to upgrade the site this coming spring so users can comment even on the Photo Gallery section (along with a facelift and other enhancements.) Please bear with us until we have had an opportunity to get these changes in place.

Hi guys,
I know it is probably not much consolation, but as the webmaster for a CHURCH website, I am constantly battling to keep spammers and porn peddlers off the discussion boards.
Those of us who are members of Doc Clay's site got spammed with porn last year. And it was pure porn.
This has become a world-wide problem.
I personally appreciate the efforts you guys make keeping this board as clean as you do. You have both done an excellent job. And I know how hard it can be.
