The Planetary Society is a wonderful organization with well over 100,000 members from numerous countries around the world. The fact that they raised the funds, designed and built the spacecraft, and attempted to launch the world's first solar sail is one of the most important steps in private space exploration ever made. See the story about the first project here and cast your vote on however you personally feel about this second attempt to fly a solar sail.

Then, if you do support this project, go a step further and actually join The Planetary Society yourself. Your membership and any donations you make to TPS will help make this project a reality that much sooner. Join me as a new TPS member so that you, too, can proudly say, "I'm a member of the Planetary Society, and I helped make this second attempt happen!"

This is a great project! I have been a member of The Planetary Society for a number of years now, and fully support this project. The Planetary Society is the primary sponsor of the SETI@Home project, as well as much of the forward motion on the exploration of Mars that is being done these days.

Carl Sagan founded The Planetary Society in 1980 with Bruce Murray and Louis Friedman as a vehicle to promote planetary exploration within our own Solar System. The organization is now strongly supported by many well-known astronomers and planetary scientists. It deserves your support.
